Easy Handknit Headband

I used about 20 yards of worsted/chunky weight yarn to knit this headband. I used size 13 needles. This pattern is easily personalized by using different weights of yarns and stitch patterns. It's a great way to use up those scraps of yarn left after projects...and hand them out to little girls at church to make them feel special.

- Cast on 2 stitches, leaving 8" of yarn to tie the headband at the nape of your neck
- K 1st stitch, Inc 2nd stitch (now you'll have 3 stitches)
- Continue increasing the 2nd stitch on every row until you have 10 stitches on your needle
- Knit using a Simple Elongated Stitch* until the band wraps around your head from ear to ear
- K 1 stitch, Dec 2nd stitch, K to end (now you'll have 9 stitches)
- Continue decreasing the 2nd stitch on every row until you have 1 stitch on your needle
- Cut the yarn around 8", and loop it thru the last stich
- Use the two lengths of yarn from the beginning and end to tie the headband at the nape of your neck
- You may crochet a chain or braid pieces of yarn together to make a more secure tie

* Insert your needle thru the back of the loop to begin a knit stitch, Wrap the yarn around both needles, Wrap the yarn around the back needle to complete the knit stitch, and Bring the needle thru the front and pull the yarn gently to secure
